The decision is to be taken after the summer break with announcement of the new choice to head up Bern’s exhibition centre in Switzerland. Some 80 candidates have applied for the post of managing director. The vacancy was created after Christoph Caviezel, who took office in 2007, was obliged by prolonged illness to step down again at the end of January. His predecessor Heiner Federli, who had run BEA bern expo from 2004 to 2007 and actually planned to retire, has since returned to the helm in a caretaker capacity. Officials will also decide after the summer break whether to build a new exhibition hall. This could be up and running by 2011 and provide an extra 8,000 to 10,000 m² more exhibition space for the Bernese. (ch) www.beaexpo.ch
