Floor is life – Special show at Orgatec

Coverings are not only a cosmetic feature for cast plaster floors. They also assume important functions in the design of office and object areas and at the same time must fulfil numerous requirements. The floor covering should therefore have a stress-reducing effect through sound-absorbing characteristics, guarantee flexible floor laying and renewal, offer an attractive environment, represent a company’s corporate design, be easy-care and comfortable and not least fulfil fire prevention requirements whilst taking into account ecological aspects. So there is a lot more to good floor covering solutions than many people would assume at first glance. At the same time floor structure and design is closely linked with the areas of furnishings, acoustics, lighting, audio and visual technology when it comes to cabling. At Orgatec the floor sector will therefore present its own main product area from 21st to 25th October 2008. Under the heading “floor is life” the theme will also be p

 icked up in a special show. The exhibition is being organized by Koelnmesse in cooperation with facility designers and furnishers in a forum involving a nationwide association of highly productive and efficient skilled trade companies from the floor coverings, parquet, tiles/natural stones, cast plaster floors and interior fittings sectors. The special show is structured in three areas: the floor demonstration area, a floor-feel test area and lounge area for individual informative discussions and meetings.

The floor demonstration area invites visitors to not only walk around and sit down. Here craftsmen will also demonstrate practical applications and the latest floor laying techniques in a series of diverse activities. They will show for example the technique of covering-on-covering floor laying, which enables fast renovation work – even during ongoing, everyday office activities. This is because this floor-laying technique does not involve removing the existing floor covering, instead the new covering is professionally laid on top of the old one – without any dirt, noise or annoying odours. In addition, within the framework of the demonstrations, the experts will however also show how design coverings can be attractively fitted or how to combine different materials such as wood, carpeting or ceramics to create a floor surface.

A separate lounge area is available for informative meetings and advisory discussions. Here the floor covering specialists will explain the diversity of ultra-modern materials for office floors in a personal discussion and provide information on areas including conductive flooring for computer rooms, cable conduits laid in floors or floor structures. Anyone who is also seeking advice on special solutions – be it for open office landscapes, the boss's office, meeting and conference rooms but also reception lounge areas – will find competent and expert discussion partners here.

Finally, the floor-feel test area is designed to familiarize the visitors to the special show with the theme of floor coverings in a playful approach. In this connection, the aim is to draw attention to different types of floor coverings, in which the haptic aspect and various characteristics of the respective materials are transformed into a tangible experience. The main components of the test area are, on the one hand, materials on the floor and others, which must be feel-tested in covered containers.

The “Floor is life” Special Show area is surrounded by uniformly designed  fair stands presented by the industrial partners involved in the association of facility designers and furnishers (Gemeinschaft der Objekteure) participating in the forum: Amorim, Anker, Findeisen, Forbo Flooring, Jaso, objectflor, UFLOOR Systems and Witex. This means that all around the special show there are competent, expert contact partners with detailed information on all questions connected with floors.
